Men, please join us for Men’s Breakfast on Saturday at 8am. Lord willing, with an open heart (not just head) we will discuss the topic of spiritual renewal in the context of Christian manhood and ministry (see 1 Tim. 4:6-16 & 2 Tim. 2:1-7). Officers meet for prayer at 7a.
It is never too late for renewal. Can the God who “caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Pet. 1:3) also cause us to embark on renewal on Jan 2nd or 3rd? Absolutely, yes! I remember I was tempted the most on Jan 1st last year – but started anyway. Eventually, I had somewhat of a habit. Though I fell behind (ironically) soon after my ordination in Oct! But by God’s grace, continued to persevere.
If you did not get a copy of the handout or one of the Bible reading plans (chosen after surveying 30+ plans), you can download and print from our website. Prayerfully choose a plan suitable for you. Start small and seek to build a habit.
The purpose of renewal is not renewal itself. Renewal brings glory to God, healing and vitality to his church and ultimately, leads to revival in our world. Prayerfully seek the power of the Spirit in your lives – that he may release you from worldly yokes and bring you to walk in step with Christ, whose yoke is easy and his burden is light (Matt. 11:30).
The beloved epistle to the Philippians is all about renewal – “not that I have already obtained this or am perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own” (Phil 3:12). You can see how closely Paul ties the essence of our faith (righteousness through Christ) to the excellence of our faith (maturity in Christ).
Lastly, I made a passing reference to the ancient practice of a rule. Here’s a good article if you want to learn more. This Sunday I will speak about rest – a vital aspect of our renewal and healing. Christ said, “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11:28).
Prayerfully in Christ,
Pastor Shiv
