General Assembly & Prayer

General Assembly & Prayer

Warm greetings from Atlanta, pun intended (mostly for Ross). It’s been a good General Assembly, godly and sweet-spirited in character, which isn’t always the case. In recent years there has been an ongoing theme of racial reconciliation, but this year the PCA (a largely Southern denomination) elected its first African American moderator by a loud, unanimous vote, followed by a standing ovation. It was a powerful and joyful moment. More on that next week, along with comments on the Revoice Conference in St. Louis, which you may want to look up before I speak to it.

In the meantime, a prayer request: the Hannon property we’ve been praying over (the white house next to the entrance to our parking lot) may come up for sale soon. While the owners would like us to buy the property, they have been offered $1.5m by the owners of Green Grotto (the marijuana store hoping to open up the hill above the chapel). There’s more to the story, but for now it’s important that we do one thing: ask God for wisdom and direction. There are several ways we would benefit from buying the Hannon property, but if we have to beat a price of $1.5m it will be difficult. God hears our prayers (Prov 15:29), tells us to cast our cares on him (1 Pet 5:7), and “delights to be consulted” (Charles Bridges): let’s go to him and ask for help, wisdom, and (if necessary) finances to address this moment. Please take a moment and pray now. Thank you.
