Dear CPC family,
“Take up and read; Take up and read.” Elder Ed reminds me of these words that Augustine heard in a desperate moment. Interpreting it to be a command from God to read the Bible, he obeyed and it changed his life. In that moment, Augustine surrendered to Christ and went on to be arguably one of the most towering figures in the history of the church.
The Lord Jesus Christ tells his beloved disciples, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples” (John 15:7-8).
Dear flock, I pray that the “word of Christ may dwell in you richly” (Col. 3:16) in the new year. I remember feeling most tempted on January 1st to not even start. So I have prayed for you and send this as a follow up. Just take up and read! If you did not get a reading plan, please find the Thematic (Bible in a Year) plan here, which I recommend for most people. If you’d like one of the other plans, you can download and print from here. We will have more printed copies available next Sunday.
Wish you all a happy new year! Yes, God wants us to be happy! Jesus Christ is our true and eternal happiness. Amen.
